The Independent Priory of New South Wales comprising mainly Knights and Dames of Honour as well as Serving Brothers and Sisters is part of a worldwide network of Priors and Commanderies representing the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller (OSJ). A Constitution granted by King Peter II of Yugoslavia in 1963, sets out the general aims of the Order, which are essentially ecumenical, the Order being committed to charitable works in aid of the sick, poor and the disadvantaged, and fostering Christian unity.
The Priory functions within the administrative arm of the Grand Magisterium of the Order based in London with HRH Prince Karl Vladimir Karadjordjevic of Yugoslavia GCSJ as the Grand Master.
